COURSE CONTENT:

This course covers the significant events following the National Struggle, including the opening of the Ottoman Parliament (Meclis-i Mebusan) and the acceptance of the National Pact (Misak-ı Milli), the occupation of Istanbul, the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (T.B.M.M.), and the Treaty of Sèvres. Key topics include the establishment of the Independence Tribunals, the movement of the National Struggle after April 23, 1920, and the Eastern Front operations. It also addresses the victories at the First and Second Battles of İnönü, the Kütahya-Eskişehir battle, the Battle of Sakarya, and the subsequent events leading to the signing of the Ankara Agreement, the Great Offensive (Büyük Taarruz), the abolition of the Sultanate, the Mudanya Armistice, and the Lausanne Treaty.

The course also examines the declaration of the Republic, the abolition of the Caliphate, the 1924 Constitution, the reforms that followed the proclamation of the Republic, the reactions to these reforms, and attempts to transition to a multi-party system.
